Concept

Epigenetic age / biological age

An estimate of how old a person's body appears at a molecular level, calculated from DNA methylation patterns rather than years lived.

Biological age, often estimated with an epigenetic clock, is a figure derived from DNA methylation and other markers that aims to describe how aged the body appears at a molecular level, as distinct from chronological age in years. Clinics use it to frame testing and tracking. It is an estimate produced by a model, and its accuracy and usefulness for individual decisions are still debated.
