A class of medications that mimic the glucagon-like peptide-1 hormone, prescribed for blood-sugar control and weight management.

GLP-1 refers to glucagon-like peptide-1 and to the class of drugs (such as semaglutide and tirzepatide) that act on its receptor. Originally approved for type 2 diabetes, several are now approved for weight management. They are prescription medicines and their use requires a licensed prescriber.
